Belts vs Whetstones
Here at Hometown Hone we're proud users of the Tormek T4 slow rotation water wheel system. Compared to the high speed belts other sharpeners are using this is gentler on your knife and leaves a precise and superior edge.
What is the turnaround for having my knives sharpened?
If you're dropping off knives at my workshop I'll ask that you pick them up the next day unless you need to make special arrangements. If you're bringing knives to the farmers market I'll let you know how long the wait is and I'll do them right there on the spot and have them ready to pick up before the market is over.
Do I need to make an appointment to get my knives sharpened?
When I'm out at farmers markets I operate on a first come, first serve basis. No appointment needed. I post my schedule every week so you know where to find me. When I'm not at farmers markets I work from my home workshop and I do appreciate it if you can just give me a heads up when you can stop by.
How should I safely transport my knives to you for sharpening?
What I recommend is that you roll the knives up in a dish towel and then place the roll in a reusable grocery bag to carry. If you're bringing a whole set please feel free to transport them in the block. When I'm done sharpening them I will wrap them individually in paper to protect the nice fresh edge and for your safety on the trip home.
